Nayah (she/they) is a senior at Skidmore College, where they are pursuing dance performance/choreography and education. Within 12 years of experience as a competitive dancer, Nayah has trained in various styles including tap, jazz, ballet, and hip-hop under the mentorship of many skilled instructors. During their time at Skidmore, Nayah was selected as an Education Intern at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) School of the Arts, where they later transitioned into a Teaching Artist position. This opportunity allowed them to deepen their commitment to arts education while actively engaging with diverse student populations. Nayah is also a recipient of the Miranda Family Fellowship, an initiative designed to support and nurture the development of aspiring artists.
Passionate about promoting diversity, inclusion, and authenticity within the arts, Nayah seeks to create spaces where students of all backgrounds feel empowered and valued. In the long term, they aspire to work in public schools and dance studios to broaden access to movement-based education. Additionally, Nayah is eager to travel internationally to explore and learn from different dance traditions and cultural practices, further expanding their understanding of global dance forms. In their choreography, Nayah emphasizes the joy, expression, and deep-rooted passion that dance can embody, while also exploring larger societal themes such as race, sexuality, and socio-cultural norms. As an educator, they are committed to fostering an environment of open dialogue, collaboration, and individual expression, encouraging students to engage deeply with the art form while embracing their unique voices.
